Skin sensitivity is something we have all experienced at some point or another, a reaction to a food, a skincare product, a particularly stressful period in our lives can spark off a longer standing sensitive skin, along with more of a genetic predisposition to certain skin conditions such as rosacea and eczema prone skins. Whatever the reason selecting skincare that won’t flare things up further is key. Manuka Doctor has developed a range to support sensitive skins in time of need, keeping it simple with a gentle calming cleanser, protective serum and calming moisturiser. Paraben, SLS and fragrance free with the healing benefits of manuka honey. I am a huge fan of topical prebiotics, these are ingredients that feed the skin, supporting the surface, its natural barrier function, supporting a healthy balance of good bacteria, which is essential to help it function perfectly, if the barrier is disrupted it can result in sensitivity, acne, premature ageing and lots of other negative skin conditions. Protect the surface for a healthy happy skin.
When I have a new client with a sensitive skin often my first bit of advice is simply your routine and take out key irritants, which is exactly what Manuka Doctor has done.
Gentle Cream Cleanser
A sensitized skin needs delicate cleansing, it still requires daily cleansing but nothing that's going to strip or further irritate. My preference is a gentle cream cleanser, Manuka Doctor Anti-redness Gentle Cream Cleanser actually helps to rebalance and restore the skin’s surface with prebiotics encouraging good bacteria. Manuka honey is naturally antibacterial, and beeswax is thick and soothing without clogging the skin, melting away impurities when removed with warm water, perfect for cleansing delicate skins, the ideal first step in a sensitive skin routine.
Massage onto dry skin, including the face, neck and décolleté. Avoid using water that is too hot, sensitive skins don't like extremes of temperature.
Protective Serum
Sometimes skin needs a soothing, cooling, redness reducing serum, Manuka Doctor Anti-Redness Protective Serum is the perfect antidote, for long standing sensitive skins and also skin that has had a bit of a reaction, such as sun burn. Packed with soothing Aloe Vera, healing Manuka honey, Allantoin for its anti-inflammatory benefits and lots of Hyaluronic acid for extra hydration. This light weight, gel like serum is a must for sensitive skins and an essential rescue product for all others. I will definitely be traveling with this and using after sun exposure!
After cleansing, apply one pump to the whole face, use a second pump to take down onto the neck and décolleté, its dries to a totally non sticky feeling, once its absorbed you don't know it’s on the skin. Apply your moisturiser once the serum has absorbed.
Tip – you can be super generous with this serum, it's a bit of a skin SOS
Calming Moisturiser
A sensitive skin needs a special type of moisturiser to help restore the barrier function to allow it to heal from the outside in. Prebiotic ingredients are ideal to support this healing process, supporting the skins natural microbial balance, without this protective barrier the skin is susceptible to dryness, further sensitivity, impurities getting in, inflammation and so much more. Manuka Doctor calming moisturiser is a lovely light weight cream full of skin feeding probiotics. Manuka honey is a bit of a natural magical ingredient, naturally anti-inflammatory and antibacterial, supporting the good bacteria on the skin’s surface, helping to restore and nourish, blended with Coconut and Blackcurrant seed oil to further support the skin. I love the lightness of this scent free texture, a sensitive skin needs support from the right type of ingredients, not just thick rich products which might over-power the skin.
Apply two pumps to the face and neck after cleansing and applying a serum.
